Carnival of 5 Fires + Sketches + Life

Been working on many projects for clients recently...Here is one of the finished works, The Carnival of 5 Fires Logo. The Carnival of 5 Fires is a week long celebration full of awesome: Burlesque shows, vaudeville performers, art shows of the darker variety, and of course the outdoor fire magicians.
My client wanted me to make it look more posteresque as well so they could use it as such. I had a blast on it and looking forward to the events listed for this carnival of craziness. If you live in Richmond, VA I suggest you check this. Carnival of 5 Fires
And while at the kick off this event, I decided to take advantage of it artistically:

This last one I needed to warm up, and since I despise environments, I concluded I needed to do them more:

I still have many other posters to complete, hopefully in the next few days. I will finally finish those burlesque drawings for the Tshirts I am working on once these posters pass. Also planning on experimenting more with woodblock prints, I rather love the quality they produce. It has been nonstop art, but I am happy with that. I just wish it was my full time job. Gonna keep grinding away at my portfolio :3

Not dead yet...

Geeze Louise has it been busy. Not only am I working almost 40 hours a week, trying to get my portfolio rocking and kicked into gear, whilst looking for a graphic design job/internship.

The past couple of days I have come up with/picked up many projects to add to the list. Also just finished a photography set with a model and working on another for a friends products. Currently:

  • Vintage/Steampunk Logo
  • 2 T-shirt designs for the RVA Burlesque community
  • Halloween invitation
  • Work's Wine List Design
  • Possible work for a haunted trail (waiting to hear back again)
  • Reeses advertisement I have worked out
  • Several illustrations I need to figure out.

It would be nice to have a few more companies on my resume, so I have been doing research and buying magazines. I really need to apply, however I feel like I need to get more portfolio into gear before and I am so close to having something gripping. Just need to do more illustrations and add more variation.

Oh, did I mention it is near Halloween <3. It's going to be Halloween everything from now on, especially since now I have time to celebrate it. Stoked.

Update...

I now have my portfolio on one site until I make my website. Check it: http://blaillustration.carbonmade.com/

Just came back from Otakon this weekend all fired up to bring you new pieces. I spent a lot of time in the artists alley, so I was able to take a lot of notes for the future. I will probably be doing Katsucon at the artists alley, but we shall see how funds are.

Speaking of, I am currently accepting commissions! Email me for questions: blaillustration@gmail.com

Look forward to seeing more stuff very soon.

.Victorian Mustache Etiquette.

Got around to coloring it, enjoy!

Dr.Sketchys: Indy Go-Go

For this Dr.Sketchys session we had the wonderful burlesque/pinup model, Indy Go-Go.

I had a lot of fun with this session and doing the figures and animal practice a day before really helped out. Like stretching before the game.

.Practice.

Hello dearests! Recently there has been limited time for me. Hopefully a new place, working a lot, and trying to do some research and pump up my art. Last night was pretty bad from work, so drawing is quite the therapy. Practiced on some 30 second animals and 2 min nude poses. I need to get into a good drawing routine, so every day I will be trying to do this or at least practice drawing something.

Many exciting things on the way! I have plans, but I need some time to follow them all the way through. I have also been working on several different projects that will be revealed at a later time :3 Tata!

.Lolita.

I have been working on this piece FOREVER, experimenting with photoshop and whatnot. Although, today I finally got it to a point where I liked it.

I really love the whole Lolita fashion in Japan. Although, I am turned off by the whole elitism thing. I see snobby girls in the best lace picking on ones that aren't, especially on the forums and at conventions. I do understand some of the rules, and if you are absolutely committed to wearing this stuff everyday, more power to you. Just don't tear down the girls that still want to look pretty, even if they don't follow "your" specific rules, k? :D Pretty dresses should be worn on pretty ladies - inside and out.

End rant. I will also be attending Otakon in July! So if you are attending, you might want to watch out for this in the art show :3

Dr.Sketchys: The Muse

Dr.Sketchys RVA June model: The Muse

Her posing was great and she was a lot of fun to draw. I need to draw more figures. We also have a new home at Strange Matter, so if you are in the Richmond area, stop by, I guarantee you will have a blast.

.Drawerings.

Here are some old sketches from the last session of SOCA, as well as a few doodles...

Dr.Sketchy's Poster

Hello all! I am finally out of school. WOOO GRADUATION! :D

I have been trying to work on some old projects, get those fixed up. This is one of my first from my Projects in Illustration class for Advertising. I really have enjoyed this one in particular since I love attending Dr.Sketchy's sessions. If you do not know what it is: Figure drawing using amazing models like burlesque stars, circus performers, alternative models, and interesting people all together. They give away prizes and the atmosphere is lovely. Check to see if one is in your town!

Faces, Photoshop Monsters, and Graduation

A few more faces:
Veil I, Veil II, Tattoo, Plant Life I, Plant Life II

Beauty and the Beast editorial

A piece from my senior portfolio class. This was my take on how modern women are always photoshoped before publication. They are photoshoped to be more "beautiful", but most of the time it just gets ridiculous. It was fascinating creating a monster :D

I graduate soon, which is very exciting. Although I have been having mixed feelings about my art. Seems like it is not good at all. My friends seem to be my only fanbase, if that - honestly I do not think some of them even like my art, which is ok, just a bit disappointing on my side. I know I do need to push myself more and I recently figured out the ways. I guess I figured I would be farther than I was by the time I graduated. And I also figured I would have more artists friends. I am not saying this to be whiny, just observing. I am especially grateful for the continued support of the amazing people in my life - you know who you are and I love you.

Moar Faces

More faces for you~ From top to bottom: Geometric, Analytical Cubism, Multiple Exposures, Continuous Line, Continuous Line filled in.

The art show went really well! It was great to see everyone and see all the particular people come out to see us. We filled up the place at one point! :D How exciting.

I am forever done with classes...kind of scary. Now time to bulk up the portfolios that are due next week. Hopefully I will have some pieces for my actual portfolio. I am also currently working on a linoleum print. Never printed without a printing press before. I am ecstatic. I want to add this medium to my work :D
